Calculating delivery time... Why?
How do you choose the materials for your products ?
Atelier TUFFERY’s requirement for beautiful materials demands high-quality denim fabrics, ranging from raw organic cotton cloth through to selvedge denim, and including cotton-silk mixes. The selected fabrics come from France, home of the Nîmes fabric which gave its name to denim (in French, de Nîmes means from Nîmes!), Spain and Italy. The latter gave us the word jeans, because the fabric was produced in Genoa (known as Gênes in French).
Always in search of excellence, Atelier TUFFERY is constantly looking for fabrics that stand out for their composition, their origin or the artisans who weave them.
Labels are genuine leather and rivets are in copper, easily recognised since they carry the company symbol of three scissors.
How do you make your clothes so comfortable ?
Essentially, the secret of the comfort of Atelier TUFFERY jeans lies in the cutting stage, which is made with the help of the famous big scissors, handed down from generation to generation by the family’s master tailors. Atelier TUFFERY works with cardboard patterns, a traditional technique which has been retained to enable hand-cutting of the fabric for the various pieces which make up the jeans. The fabric is marked with mineral chalk and the pieces assembled, giving birth to unique creations across the years.
How are your clothes made ?
Atelier TUFFERY jeans can be easily identified by their particularly high standard of finish, which guarantees garments that reflect the company’s tradition of quality. Pieces are sewn by hand in Florac, France, by master tailors trained by the heirs of this traditional skill, which is now part of France’s artisanal heritage.
Are all your clothes made in France ?
Yes, all of the items on sale on our website are designed, cut, sewn, assembled and washed in France! To remind us of this, all Atelier TUFFERY jeans include a belt loop carrying a red, white and blue braid, a reminder of French pride in our craftsmanship. Because this savoir-faire in French jeans, handed down from generation to generation, is unique in France, Atelier TUFFERY has been awarded the prestigious Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label (a ‘living heritage company’), highlighting the excellence of its craftsmanship.
What does the logo on the site saying Atelier TUFFERY is EPV mean ?
Atelier TUFFERY is proud to display the prestigious label it received from Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (a ‘living heritage company’). It shares this logo with the largest traditional French fashion houses, which is a tribute to their inimitable French savoir-faire and their demand for quality across the ages.
Why are the back pockets of men’s trousers in two parts, with stitching across the middle ?
It’s a little company secret…The pocket is still in two parts on men’s trousers and is a signature of Atelier TUFFERY’s finishing touches. It’s also the best way to authenticate genuine Atelier TUFFERY jeans. It recalls the usefulness of the company’s jeans, which were originally items of workwear, and reminds us of the company’s innovative, avant-garde spirit which led to the development of these two-part pockets, which meant only the lower pocket needed to be replaced in pockets worn out through the carrying of tools and other bits of hardware.
How are clothes rinsed and/or washed ?
Once made, all of our jeans are sent to a specialised factory in Le Mans, which rinses and prepares the trousers according to the desired visual effect. This is a real craft using specific techniques. Atelier TUFFERY conducts its washes in an ecological and responsible way in France. All this is done in compliance with the environmental and societal standards in force, monitored by certified auditing firms and the French authorities. We also often visit our partner in Le Mans to maintain control over this important phase of the manufacturing of our denim clothing.
Whose hands sew our Atelier TUFFERY clothes ?
You will discover the name of your master tailor-clothier on the small spool of thread which accompanies the jeans we send you.
Behind every Atelier TUFFERY item, there is a man or a woman, at the forefront of their craft, who put all the necessary care and attention possible into making your garment.
To ensure this savoir-faire never disappears and can continue to dress future generations of men and women in denim, Atelier TUFFERY pays particular attention to the training of its future master tailor-clothiers. The transmission of this unique know-how is provided internally, during a long training process. Today, every couturier has all the manufacturing secrets for each garment that comes out of the workshop and perpetuates the tradition of quality, which stretches back to 1892, for the centuries to come.
Do the designs change every season ?
At Atelier TUFFERY, you can find your favourite designs from one year to another. Because producing timeless, sober, elegant and durable jeans is deeply ingrained in our values, the collections are always available from one season to another, accompanied by new designs or new colours.
Are summer designs, such as mini-skirts and Bermuda shorts, also available in winter ?
Yes! At Atelier TUFFERY, there are no winter fabrics or summer fabrics. All year round we use the most beautiful denim fabrics, which offer comfort, elegance and durability. All of our products are on sale throughout the year.
Do you have end-of-season sales ?
Because we are responsible manufacturers, we do not overproduce. Indeed, we do not make jeans that won’t be sold. This avoids waste and the anomalies of overproduction. So, there are no sales with us !
How can I find the right size for me ?
Simply by consulting our dedicated page, Size Guide. For each cut, you will find the measurements you need to take, corresponding to the sizes on sale.
You’ll also find these Size Guide tables on each product page, right next to the choice of size.
Is it usual that new jeans feel a little bit tight ?
Feeling a little restricted is a sensation that comes from the fact that our fabric is authentic and deliberately thick, therefore jeans may feel a little tight at first. They soften up in the first few hours they are worn.
If I ask you to take up my jeans, do I have to pay?
We can take up your jeans with no charge but PLEASE NOTE, cut and hemmed trousers cannot be exchanged if you want to change sizes.
Instead, we advise you to take up your jeans yourself after you have received them. To do this, use the mini-spool of thread that we include in your order as this will allow you to hem your garment in the colour matching the stitching of your purchase.
Is it possible to choose leg length ?
In the old tradition of tailor-clothiers, handed down from father to son, we are against fixed lengths (everyone has different legs!). We make our trousers a little longer, but we always provide you with thread, because nothing beats a hem that is perfectly adjusted in person! Our jeans are long-lasting, so it’s important to personalise your hem once and for all.
Is it possible for you take up my jeans ?
We can hem your trousers for you, but without trying them on there is always a risk that they won’t fit perfectly. And in this case, the jeans can no longer be exchanged! That’s why we prefer to give you a mini-spool of thread, so you can take up the jeans yourself (or ask a seamstress/clothier or a member of your entourage etc. to do it).
Then, if you want to renew the experience at Atelier TUFFERY, we will be happy to do the alterations before sending them off !
Is it possible to personalise aprons ?
Personalising your apron will make this accessory a unique piece for you, your business or your loved ones. To do so, following the order of the ‘personalised apron’, simply send us your text or logo, together with your order number.
For all other questions about made-to-measure or personalised items, please contact us directly via email.
Do you offer made-to-measure jeans ?
It’s one of our core skills as master tailors-clothiers, but it takes time and you’ll need to be patient !
For the moment, we are only offering this service as an exception, depending on the project concerned.
Until we develop this service, subscribe to the newsletter and you will be the first to know about the extension of this service.
Are there Atelier TUFFERY boutiques in France and around the world ?
For the moment, we only sell our articles via our website and in our boutique/workshop in Florac, in the heart of the Cévennes, as well as in two partner boutiques: one in Montpellier and one in Dijon.
We know that sometimes you would rather try our products, but can reassure you that our exchange policy is very simple and practical: just send us the wrong size and we will send you the new size for free !
Can we distribute your products ?
Currently, we are not able to distribute our jeans to resellers as our production is too limited. This will soon change with the reorganization of our production, the opening of our new workshop-museum and the training of new tailor-clothiers.
Feel free to send us an email, expressing your interest, so we can get back in touch with you later in 2018.
Can we meet you and visit the workshop ?
Yes, with great pleasure! Our boutique/workshop is open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to midday and then 2pm to 7pm at – ZA St Julien du Gourg, 48400 FLORAC.

Who prepares the orders ?
They are all prepared directly by the Atelier TUFFERY team on site: from producer to consumer!
Is it possible to order a product on your site and have it sent to an address other than mine as a gift ?
Of course, an artisanal, hand-made denim product makes a great gift! To do this, you just need to put the recipient’s address as the delivery address and your address as the invoice address. A little extra: we can even ensure we don’t include the invoice in the package, just let us know in the ‘Comments’ section when placing your order!
Why is the delivery time longer for some pieces than it is for others ?
Atelier TUFFERY and its French partners make their pieces with a deep respect for quality and environmental standards, and absolute respect for employees. This production method can sometimes cause delays and longer delivery times, but orders will be filled very quickly. Indeed, at Atelier TUFFERY, there is no real ‘out of stock’ because we manufacture as and when demand evolves. If a product is especially in demand, it will simply take longer to manufacture new ones, but it will still be possible to place your order, though a little patience may be needed.

How should I wash my jeans ?
For fabrics used in our normal jeans (not natural indigo)
We strongly recommend you :
– Wash jeans as little as possible.
– Wash/dry/iron inside out. Wash at no higher than 30°C maximum.
– Avoid excessive spinning, ideally no more than 600 rpm.
– Do not leave your jeans in a ball in the bottom of the machine at the end of the washing cycle.
– Don’t use a tumble dryer.
Rest assured, though, these tips are recommendations and not obligations !
Once out of the machine, your jeans may feel a little tighter (it’s real thick raw denim!) like they did when new, but the material will relax in a couple of hours, regaining its legendary comfort.
For fabrics in the Tailleur (Tailored) jeans range, with natural indigo
We strongly recommend you :
– Wash jeans as little as possible.
– For the first 2 washes, wash jeans alone in the machine. In fact, the more intense circulation will magnify the indigo’s patina.
– Wash/dry/iron inside out. Wash at no higher than 30°C maximum.
– Avoid excessive spinning, ideally no more than 600 rpm.
– Do not leave your jeans in a ball in the bottom of the machine at the end of the washing cycle.

– Do not overload the machine’s drum.
– Always wash your jeans on a delicates or cold programme.
– Choose a spin speed of less than 600 rpm.
– Use a mild detergent in small quantities.
– Do not use a tumble dryer, hang upside down in the open air to dry.
– Iron your jeans inside out before turning the right way round and storing.
For hemp jean fabrics
– Turn jeans inside out before putting them in the machine.
– Do not overload the machine’s drum.

I don’t understand, as soon as I wear my new Atelier TUFFERY clothes, the clothes in contact with the denim and my hands turn blue. What should I do ?
The indigo raw denim used by Atelier TUFFERY is dyed with quality indigos (natural or synthetic) and is deliberately only lightly rinsed before the jeans are sold. Your jeans then remain raw, so that everyone can bring their denim alive in the manner they wish, personalising the colour through their body and movement.
This means, though, that this raw colour can turn your hands and some clothing in contact with the jeans blue. Be careful the first time you wear them, but it’s not serious and not harmful. This effect will reduce in the weeks following your purchase. It’s your jeans taking on a patina from your touch.
How can I contact Atelier TUFFERY ?

You are a journalist ?
You can download our press pack.
We look forward to hearing from you and getting your feedback and anecdotes.
How can I stay in touch with the latest news from Atelier TUFFERY ?
Where can I find the region’s best Pélardons ?
A Pélardon is a small goat’s cheese emblematic of the Cévennes. You can find it everywhere in the region, but we highly recommend those from the Ferme des Cévennes in Florac Trois Rivières, which you can find at Florac market on Thursdays and Fridays…And you can visit us at the Boutique, it’s right next to the market. ;-)
At Atelier Tuffery, all of our materials are cut in the workshop and each piece is assembled by hand. This ensures that we create high-quality garments which meet our demanding standards, which have not changed in 125 years. We prioritise a carefully managed production flow for the well-being of our employees and to avoid waste. If the garment you order is not in stock, it will take us just a little bit of time to create it especially for you. Quality takes time so be patient, you won’t regret it.
