The Excellence of French Know-How

Thanks to their straight cut and thick satin canvas, Maurice Bermuda shorts look like chinos, but stop at the knee. They are designed for comfort and ease of movement. Composed mainly of cotton, we have added a touch of elastane to give the shorts ease and flexibility. Sleek, with two Italian pockets on the sides and a single patch pocket on the rear, they can be worn with or without turn-ups, depending on the desired length.

Master tailor Norbert Tuffery shares his maintenance tips.

“Before being sold, all our products are washed in France without the addition of environmentally harmful products. The first time you put on your new jeans, they should feel a bit tight because our high-quality fabrics are a little stiff at first. They will relax over time and the less you wash your jeans, the more beautiful they will be in the long term.”

Before the advent of jeans, men’s wardrobes contained trousers. The emblematic garment in this era were pleated trousers. Recognisable by their two piped back pockets and oblique side pockets, they gave birth to chinos, which themselves gave birth to Lucette shorts. Although Atelier Tuffery was a pioneer of jeans in France, smart trousers have always been a part of its collection. Tuffery has always made denim canvas trousers. Historically, Atelier Tuffery chinos were called ‘106’, in reference to national route 106, which connects Florac to the city of Nîmes, where Célestin used to get his denim fabric.
