A label awarded by the French State recognising excellence in French companies with exceptional artisanal and industrial know-how, whose heritage is aimed very much towards the future. It was issued to us in 2017 by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Inspired by historic pleated trousers, with two piped back pockets and two slanted side pockets, Ernest chinos have been reinvented with a new finish. Created from a thick sand-coloured satin fabric, they have a fitted straight cut. Thanks to a slight addition of elastane, the cotton canvas is more flexible and comfortable. Ernest are Atelier Tuffery’s smart trousers with a casual-chic style.

The emblematic range reinvents the com-pany’s iconic designs, using vintage cuts and authentic washes to create timeless pieces.
“Before being sold, all our products are washed in France without the addition of environmentally harmful products. The first time you put on your new jeans, they should feel a bit tight because our high-quality fabrics are a little stiff at first. They will relax over time and the less you wash your jeans, the more beautiful they will be in the long term.”
Before the advent of jeans, men’s changing rooms would be full of trousers. The emblematic clothing in this era were pleated trousers. They featured two piped (paspel) rear pockets and slanted side pockets, giving birth to chinos. Although Atelier Tuffery was a pioneer of jeans in France, trousers have always been part of the brand’s collection. Traditionally, Atelier Tuffery made its trousers in denim. Historically, Atelier Tuffery’s chinos were named 106, in reference to France’s national road 106 which connects Atelier Tuffery’s hometown of Florac with the city of Nîmes, where Célestin Tuffery sourced his denim.
“Some of our pieces have a first name, directly inspired by one of the characters who have marked the history of the Tuffery family.
These are the lives of people who gave birth to our clothes, such as Ernest.”
Gourmand and a fine connoisseur of nature, Ernest was the chef who knew, years ago, how to enhance still further local products in his kitchen and promote the working of the region’s soils.
