The expert range seeks perfection in denim, creating clothes with the most beautiful fabrics such as silk, wool and artisanal selvedge, naturally tinted, for unique pieces.
“For 29 years I have been weaving fabrics from the French wool sector. I enjoy transforming this high-class fibre from our local agriculture.
The fabric is already washed and rinsed when making clothes, so there is no risk of it shrinking during washing. Ideally, use a wool programme and forget the tumble dryer.”
Célestin Tuffery was already concerned with keeping things local 125 years ago. By choosing fabric from Nîmes near the Cévennes, he created denim jeans and at the same time underlined Atelier Tuffery’s continuing desire to work with historical and eco-friendly supply chains. Silk production, the reintroduction of hemp, wool from the Causses, vegetable tanning and Aveyron leather are all choices that have been taken to boost the company’s everyday commitment to local and ethical history.
“Some of our pieces have a name directly drawn from the area that serves as a natural setting for our workshop. Located for 125 years in the heart of the Cévennes National Park, we create our clothes between the Cévennes valleys and the Grands Causses, which offer us daily inspiration.”
Méjean is the name of the very large and highest plateau of the Grands Causses. It’s emblematic of this land of agro-pastoralism where generations of workers have followed one another and inspired us to create this work jacket, symbolising the perpetuation of ancestral cultures over the centuries.
“An exceptional welcome which allows you to discover the passion of 4 generations. Marketing that must be encouraged to promote French know-how around the world. At Atelier Tuffery, all of our materials are cut in the workshop and each piece is assembled by hand. This ensures that we create high-quality garments which meet our demanding standards, which have not changed in 125 years. We prioritise a carefully managed production flow for the well-being of our employees and to avoid waste. If the garment you order is not in stock, it will take us just a little bit of time to create it especially for you. Quality takes time so be patient, you won’t regret it.
