MASTER TAILOR'S TIP

Cevennes Light Blue
Master tailor Jean-Jacques Tuffery shares his maintenance tips.
“Master tailors will always prefer raw jeans to light jeans. But light jeans remain a staple of the wardrobe that can be worn both summer and winter and have retained their image of timeless vintage trousers.
All of our light jeans are treated by a historic company in Sarthe that has a strong environmental conscience. All effluent is treated and the water is recycled.”

A LEGACY OF HANDIWORK AND EXPERTISE
Some 125 years ago, Célestin Tuffery’s huge scissors cut the first fabric from Nîmes, giving birth to denim jeans. Working this fabric by hand, a fully-fledged discipline within tailoring, has been passed down from generation to generation in the workshop. Every day, our master tailors Jean-Jacques and Norbert, the third generation of the Tuffery family, continue to transmit the secrets of Célestin and Alphonse to a whole new generation of expert jeans tailors.
“Some of our pieces have a name directly drawn from the area that serves as a natural setting for our workshop. Located for 125 years in the heart of the Cévennes National Park, we create our clothes between the Cévennes valleys and the Grands Causses, which offer us daily inspiration.”
A mythical land of adventure and conquest, the Cévennes has been the scene of confrontation and war, just like the land of the pioneers in the American West. Cévennes is also the name given to the French version of this iconic Western shirt, in tribute to all courageous denim lovers.
“ I recommend ! Beyond the quality jeans, the philosophy, the economic model and the ethics that revolve around this family workshop are remarkable. We hope that all this quickly becomes the norm and no longer the exception ! ”

At Atelier Tuffery, all of our materials are cut in the workshop and each piece is assembled by hand. This ensures that we create high-quality garments which meet our demanding standards, which have not changed in 125 years. We prioritise a carefully managed production flow for the well-being of our employees and to avoid waste. If the garment you order is not in stock, it will take us just a little bit of time to create it especially for you. Quality takes time so be patient, you won’t regret it.
